Technology

Technological innovation is a defining characteristic of Aruba's wireless LANs, branch office/teleworker remote networks, and network security services.

Building on a foundation of established industry standards, Aruba's technology enhances mobility, security, and network performance while simplifying ease-of-use and system management.

Enhancing Wi-Fi Performance With Adaptive Radio Management (ARM)

The world is in a constant state of flux. People move, equipment moves, buildings change. And with each change comes a potential change - and challenge - in the radio (RF) environment in which a Wi-Fi network must operate.

Aruba's ARM technology tackles these changes head-on by dynamically and unobtrusively adjusting the operation of the Wi-Fi devices and infrastructure to optimize performance. ARM technology adjusts RF power levels, operating frequencies, airtime access, and other parameters to ensure that Wi-Fi devices interoperate and deliver the level of performance of which they're capable. Even as the environment in which they work changes around them.

Security In An Unsafe World

Aruba's policy enforcement firewall controls access to and within the network based on the identity of each user, instead of the port through which they're seeking access. The difference is very significant. In an Aruba network the same access policies follow users wherever they roam - across a campus, a city, a continent. Users gain access to the same network resources, and enjoy the same user experience, wherever they access the network. Locally or remotely, over a wireless LAN, wired network or cellular phone.

In a traditional port-based network the method of access, and the user experience, changes depending on the type and location of the port. This limitation restricts mobility, reduces security, and causes confusion among users.

Centralized Architecture, Massively Scalable

By centralizing control at one or more Aruba controllers in a data center, and connecting to access points and other network edge devices over any available transport network, Aruba dramatically lowers the cost and complexity of the edge devices.

This feat is accomplished by "virtualizing" access to the data center across transport networks - separating higher layer security and service delivery functions from the network transport function. In so doing Aruba eliminates the interdependency and complexity of traditional networking approaches.

Cost-effective for small businesses and schools, yet massively scalable for the largest enterprises and institutions, Aruba's centralized architecture is used in the world's largest wireless LANs and remote networks. While other vendors scurry for solutions to address the demands of high speed 802.11n wireless networks, Aruba's architecture handles 802.11n with aplomb. And does so with minimal demands on IT staff, and while delivering client-to-core security.

Remote Networking: Extending the Network Everywhere It's Needed

Connecting branch offices, teleworkers, temporary workers, and traveling employees used to require expensive routers or difficult-to-manage client software. Not so with Aruba's innovative remote network solutions. All complex equipment and processes associated with remote access are retained in the data center where they can be appropriately managed. Remote users at the edge of the network use simple, inexpensive Remote Access Points (RAP) to access the enterprise.

Access policies are centrally managed and uniformly enforced regardless of where the network is accessed, locally or remotely. The user experience is also the same in both cases.

Unlike a VPN, no special client software is required for remote access - wired and wireless devices that can access the enterprise network locally can also access it remotely. Data are encrypted and authenticated, just like a VPN, but the user doesn't need to intervene to set-up a connection. There is simply no easier or more economical way to remotely access a network than with a RAP device.
